Carbon foot print

It is a measure of exclusive total amount of co2 emissions that is directly and indirectly caused by the activity or is accumulated over the life stages of a product

The data that calculates CFP should be relevant, complete, consistent, transperant and to be accurate. on the basis of level of control over emissions the green house gases (GHG’s) can be classified in to three types.

1. Direct/scope Iemissions.

This includes combustion of fuels. Most commonly known as primary CFP’s.

2. Scope 2 emissions.

This includes not directly controlled emissions and contributes 17% of emissions.

3 scope 3 emissions /secondary CFP’s.

This includes indirect emissions from the products and services purchased.

Methods to measure CFP

1. PALCA method: project based lifecycle assessment is an approach that measures only onsite emissions .

2. Direct method: This covers direct emissions and emissions from electricity.

3. EIO method: environmental input-output method gives total picture of all economic activities.

4. Hybrid method: this is an combination of both PALCA and ETO methods .

The standards of CFP were determined by ISO14064 certifications and by PAS2050 by B.S.I(British standards institute).smaller the CFP, the more environmental the organization. once if CFP is determined the hotspots of energy consumption is easily identified .we can easily identify solutions to neutralize the co2 emissions by means of CFP.
